Of all the Rooms in Your Home which do You Think is the Most Dangerous?
Toxin-free bathroom
When you ask people that question, most say that it’s the kitchen but when you think of the danger zone in terms of health risks rather than injuries, the answer is actually, “The bathroom!”
Why? Well, many of the health challenges we face today are caused by inadequate nutrition and exposure to environmental toxins and the skin, the body’s largest organ, is like a sponge, soaking up whatever we put on it.
For this reason we need to pay as much attention to what we put onto our bodies as to what we put into them.
Modere currently AVOIDS more than 3000 commonly used ingredients because the are either not safe or their safety is unknown!
Modere have done the research and have chosen to avoid more than 3000 ingredients routinely used in the manufacture of personal care products – without sacrificing quality or performance. In fact, replacing certain ingredients has actually enhanced effectiveness. (You can find a list of some of the ones they avoid and the types of products they are in here.)
What was the First Product this Company Made?
Their first product was a shampoo and as the most dangerous room in the home is the Bathroom, a good way to start your new Live Clean life is with the Bathroom Collection

Dental Health
Until I found this company in 2000, I hated cleaning my teeth. The taste and texture of toothpaste caused an involuntary action in the back of my throat. (I’m sure you know which one I mean!)
Modere toothpaste is are not actually paste -it’s a light, clear gel. It contains an ingredient, harmless to us, which dissolves food film and destroys bacteria -not that there are a lot of those because there’s a lack of food film for them to eat!!
At my last appointment, my Dentist remarked that my teeth were very clean. I answered that of course they were because I’d just cleaned them. I wouldn’t come with dirty teeth! His reply was, “No, I meant there is no plaque for me to remove. See you in A YEAR” !
Toothpaste
It has an ingredient which helps to re-mineralise the teeth, (mine haven’t been sensitive for years) and the mild clean taste is provided by the herb Mentha Piperita (peppermint) They contain no harsh abrasives or chemicals to damage the inside of the mouth or to be absorbed into the blood stream. One friend no longer suffers from mouth ulcers and another who had suffered burning sensation 24 hours a day, which the doctor and dentist could do nothing about, no longer has that problem. They are also value for money. It lasts me at least 3 months.
Below is a warning on a toothpaste I bought in the USA. It is a big seller here too but UK law does not require the warnings.
“If you accidentally swallow more than used for brushing, seek professional help or contact a poison control center immediately.”
Toothpaste is a poison???
Modere toothpaste needs no warnings because it is both effective and SAFE! This is important because the quickest route into the blood-steam is under the tongue.
Mouthwash
Modere Mouth Rinse eliminates bacteria and is the perfect partner for the toothpaste because it too dissolves food film and removes mouth odours (e.g. onion breath). It is also gentle, causing us no harm because it contains no alcohol nor harsh chemicals. After thoroughly rinsing, don’t eat or drink for 15 minutes to allow it to continue working. It has other uses too. A few drops works better than cold water when you burn your arm on the oven door. It also removes beetroot and red wine stains from white cotton. I can supply a full list –just ask.
Hair Health
Shampoos
Modere has 2 shampoos, both mild and gentle but extremely effective. I’ve used the same shampoo since 2000 – no burn out! An All Purpose Shampoo and a Moisturising one.
I use a plunger in the shampoos because then I can control how much shampoo I am using so that I don’t waste any.
Many ladies have sparse hair due to an ingredient that Modere has never used – SLS. It corrodes the hair follicle so that instead of growing for 2 years, falling out for 3 months and then regrowing for 4 years, the hair grows slowly for 2 years and falls out before slowly regrowing for 2 years. The cumulative effect is a lack of hair.
I don’t have that problem. Despite my “advancing years” I have a full head of healthy hair.
Conditioner
All Purpose Conditioner is unusual. Do not rinse it off immediately. Leave for a few minutes because, unlike other conditioners, it does not coat the hair, it is absorbed by the hair shaft, moisturising and strengthening it. The shine comes from light which is reflected from its now smooth surface. In fact, I don’t rinse it off so it continues to protect my hair from the environment.
Body Care
Cleansing Bar
For those who like hand soap there is a cleansing bar. It is vegetable based so it contains no tallow. It exfoliates without damaging your skin and the scent is provided by natural essential oils.
Bath and Shower Gel
As its name suggests Modere Shower Gel is a gel so that it does not dry the skin. It leaves it soft and refreshed. It’s perfect in the shower, bath and for washing hands because it’s good for all skin types, sensitive and delicate skin. It is wonderful for babies and young children because it’s toxin free. I always dilute it into Foamers for ease of use on the bathroom and kitchen sinks.
Bubble Bath
I love the Bubble Bath. A couple of capfuls into running water provides luxurious relaxation and helps you sleep. It does the same for fractious babies too!!
It has a beautiful smell and once a week I treat myself to a long relaxing soak with a cup of coffee and a book!
Deodorant
This is a powerful deodorant with naturally deodorising herbs that keep you fresh without upsetting your skin’s respiration: coriander, sage, eucalyptus and aloe vera.
NB. this is not an anti-perspirant. Perspiration is the body’s way of getting rid of the toxins and other waste products which accumulate in the lymphatic system (the body’s sewage system.) The skin is our largest detox organ and when this function is interfered with, our health is adversely affected. It does not contain aluminium salts.

How to avoid toxic chemicals at home that risk the health of you and your child.
Toxic body
In the modern world it’s normal to have a toxic body.
Over the last few years, ordinary people, that is non-scientists like you and me, have become increasingly aware of the dangers posed by man-made chemical ingredients in products we use every day at home.
Two TV programmes screened in the UK , “How Toxic are You?” and “How Toxic are Your Kids?” have enhanced this awareness here and I’m sure that similar programmes have been screened in other countries too.
I want to share with you what I’ve learnt about these dangers and what we can do to remove most of them.
The main cause of body toxicity is harmful ingredients in products we use every day
I don’t think it’s too much to ask that the products sold to us for use on ourselves, our children and our homes should be safe products!
I say that they should not contain dangerous ingredients, nor even potentially harmful ones, that can accumulate in our bodies.
Is the risk real?
YES.
A 15 year study showed that “women who worked at home had a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women who had jobs elsewhere.”
In 1989 the US Dept of Occupational Safety and Health analysed 2,983 chemicals used in personal care products such as toothpaste, bubble bath, cosmetics etc.
884 were toxic.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Of these:-
778 were acutely toxic
146 were carcinogenic
218 caused reproductive complications
314 caused biological mutations
376 caused eye and skin irritation
The number of chemicals used in everyday products increases yearly.
Most chemicals remain untested by Regulatory Bodies
Chemicals Data
The number of synthetic chemicals has been doubling every 7 or 8 years since the 1930s – far too many to test.
Users rely on manufacturers’ own Material Safety Data Sheets.
By 18 months, babies have the “safe lifetime levels” of chemicals in their blood
In 2003, the ContamiNATION study – ( World Wide Foundation) – found:-
Safe lifetime levels in the first 18 months of life
70 toxic chemicals in the blood of UK citizens
27 was the average number, with one poor man having 49
When they tested placentas and umbilical cords they found that babies were being born with as many as 20
A Royal Society study (UK) found that within 18 months they have accumulated the “safe lifetime levels”.
In December 2009 Dr. Mercola reported that the Environmental Working Group (USA) carried out tests on 10 randomly selected samples of umbilical cord blood.
9 tested positive for BPA (Bisphenol A) an industrial petrochemical which has been implicated in a lengthening list of chronic disorders, including cognitive and behavioural impairments, diabetes and obesity.
Air in the home can be up to 70 times more hazardous than the air outside
70 times more hazardous
“Most homes have airborne concentrations of hazardous and toxic chemicals 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outside. Some homes are 70 times higher!”(US Environmental Protection Agency 1989)
Household products release toxic vapours even when they are not being used. Our noses tell us where the washing powders and cleaning products are in the supermarket, don’t they??
Vapours released by body warmth from night clothes and bedding are breathed in and can cause asthma, especially in children because of their small size.
Then there’s the air fresheners. Do you know it takes at least 100 chemicals to make a “perfume”? The “perfume” blocks the receptors in the nose. That’s why we have products which periodically spray again.
So… DO they neutralise bed smells or not?
Have you ever read the warnings on the back? Nasty!
Fire retardant chemicals in carpets and soft furnishings are another hazard.
The Bathroom is more dangerous than the Kitchen
Bathroom is more dangerous
The skin is the quickest route for absorption of chemicals into the bloodstream – undiluted – hence nicotine and HRT patches.
The main ingredient used to make brake fluid and anti-freeze is the most frequently used foaming ingredient in toiletries which foam.
CAP (Consumer’s Association of Penang – Malaysia) published a booklet detailing the findings of their ground-breaking study to reveal “Cancer-Causing Chemicals in Cosmetics and Daily Use Products.”
CAP’s study was prompted by a 496% increase in the number of reported cancer cases which rose from 6,254 in 1970 to 37,294 in 1996 – during which time Malasian society was becoming “modernised” in the mould of Western Societies. Their death rate from cancer had risen to match ours in the UK – 103 a day!
These are some of the chemicals they named which are common ingredients in toiletries, cosmetics and skin careproducts.
You can find a comprehensive list of what products they are in and problems associated with them Here to check against the products in your home.
Hidden dangers
An added complication is Potentially Harmful chemicals. A lot of chemicals are safe UNTIL mixed with something else eg Triclosan and water = toxic dioxins (so why is Triclosan in toothpaste?) but the scary thing is that as tens of thousands have NEVER been tested, no-one knows whether they are safe or not.Be wary of products where ingredients are not listed on the product container.Also be aware that “natural”, “organic”, “herbal” does not necessarily mean SAFE because the base ingredients (the carriers) quite often aren’t.
Toothpaste warning label
Toothpaste warning label
This is on a tube of toothpaste I bought in the U.S.
It is a top seller in the UK too but it doesn’t carry the warning!
“Children under 6 years of age: Do not use unless directed by a dentist or a physician.”
“Warning:
Keep out of the reach of children under 6 years of age. If you accidentally swallow more than used for brushing, seek professional advice or contact a Poison Control Centre immediately.”
~~~~~ Toothpaste is poisonous?????
Personally. this makes me very angry.
The quickest way for us to absorb anything, is through the mouth.
Where do you put Angina pills? Under the tongue because they are absorbed in about 30 seconds!
Don’t you think children absorb toothpaste from under their tongues??
So how many exposures does your family have ?
Toiletries and cosmetics
When you count the number of toiletries and cosmetics a woman uses they add up to about 20 a day. If there are only 2 or 3 nasties in each product, it averages out at 50 a day – more than 18,000 every year.
Men now use moisturisers etc so their tally is now more than 6,000 a year.
Children are not far behind – about 5,000 a year – and we have to remember that their small size makes them extremely vulnerable.
Do your products pass the safety test?
Why not print off the ingredients listed above and check the labels on your favourite products?
If they fail the test you have a choice to make.
A) Do nothing.
B) Change your brand.
I can now hear you saying, “Yes, but I don’t have time to search and what about the ingredients not listed here? Are they safe?”
I felt the same way because I don’t have a degree in chemistry either.
Read on…!
Do you want some Good News now?
Just as not all natural substances are safe, not all man-made chemicals are harmful.
In fact, some are very beneficial.
The trick is knowing which is which.
Some time ago, someone I know told me about a company who Do know the difference.
So we can take out the guess work by transferring our current monthly spending on Personal Care, Skin Care, Cosmetics and Home Care to the company who, in 1987, pioneered the formulation, manufacture and distribution of products made only from effective ingredients known to be safe.
They currently avoid more than 3.000 commonly used ingredients because they are known to be harmful or they have a “question mark” over them.
They still work very closely with Dr. Samuel Epstein, founder and chairman of The Cancer Prevention Coalition and emeritus Professor of Environmental and Occupational Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health.
He is an internationally recognised authority on avoidable causes of cancer, particularly – unknowing exposure to industrial carcinogens in consumer products such as food, cosmetics and toiletries. This is the only company he endorses.
This Safety-Conscious company is also endorsed Chris Woollams, founder of the charity CancerActive and Phillip Day of Credence.org
I have already transferred my spending to them. YOU can too.
You don’t have to go and find your products in the shops, pay Retail and carry them home.
You can order on-line, buying at Wholesale and they will be delivered to your door!
They are Effective, Safe, Economical.
Who is this Safety-Conscious Company?
They are called Modere
Based in Springfield, Utah, they operate in North America, UK/Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand.
Their mission began back in 1987 with the product concept – “products free from harmful ingredients” – then they looked for the best way to get them to people.
They currently have 13 powerful, unique product lines which provide our total health solution, using the Best of Science and the Best of Nature.
If you are eager to check out the products you can do so here.
Where this information comes from and why we should avoid products which contain them.
The skin is the quickest route for absorption of chemicals into the bloodstream – undiluted – hence nicotine and HRT patches.

Their death rate from cancer had risen to match ours in the UK – 103 a day!
Below are some of the chemicals they named: (You will find a more complete list here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1689356897948626/files/ )
Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS)
– It is a mutagen (it can alter the DNA). Found in toothpaste, body & facial washes. Made from coconut oil – industrial degreaser for engines and garage floors. It denatures protein so it damages the mucosal lining of the mouth and vagina making them susceptible to infections – ulcers, urinary tract, bladder & kidney infections
Sodium laureth sulphate (SLES)
SLES was used to make Agent Orange to defoliate the trees during the Vietnam war and large numbers of veterans have died or are dying from various kinds of cancer.
It is also found in children’s bubble bath as it creates more bubbles. It is even more dangerous than SLS. Research has shown that it prevents proper development of the eyes in young mammals and causes cataracts in older people.
Propylene glycol
Found in baby wipes and moisturisers, it is also the main ingredient in brake fluid and anti-freeze. It sits on the skin’s surface producing the “plastic bag” effect –the skin cannot respire–but it feels smooth and healthy. It is, in fact, drawing water from up from the living cells, thus damaging them.
Mineral oil
Found in moisturisers. (Alias Petroleum, Petrolatum, Paraffin, Paraffin Oil, Parafinium Liquidium)
Fluoride
Found in toothpaste. Sodium Monofluorophosphate, better known as Sodium Fluoride is used to make rat poison and is also used as an insecticide for ants and cockroaches.
This is a waste product from the phosphate fertilizer industry, a poison similar to cyanide, known to cause very dense brittle bones and dental fluorosis – the first visible sign of fluoride poisoning.
It is so corrosive that it is transported in glass-lined tankers.
A 1997 survey found that the average person who brushes his/her teeth with a pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste ingests between 0.3 and 0.4mg of fluoride each time they brush – almost half our daily tolerable limit of fluoride.
It is also added to drinking water and school milk in certain areas of the UK.
It is also called fluorosilicic acid.
See the National Pure Water Association website for more details: www.npwa.org.uk
Saccharin
Found in mouthwashes. Derived from coal tar. This caused bladder cancer in animal studies and research shows that it promotes the cancer-causing effects of other carcinogens. It is used as an artificial sweetener and can also be found in processed foods.
Ethanol
Type of alcohol from petroleum. Mouthwashes typically contain higher concentrations of alcohol than beer and wine. An alcohol content of 25% has been implicated in mouth, tongue and throat cancers. It has a similar effect on mouth tissues as SLS.
Formaldehyde
Used to embalm the dead.
Found in deodorant, shampoo, mouthwash, toothpaste, nail polish, aftershave, perfume. Causes cancer in animals and suspected of causing it in humans.
Aluminium salts
In all anti-perspirants. They block the sweat glands. (A bad idea as it traps toxins inside the body because the lymph can’t move either so it is implicated in breast cancer). Linked to brain disorders such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, behaviour abnormalities, impaired poor memory, impaired visual-motor co-ordination.
Talcum powder (Talc)
Baby Powder, cosmetics. It is the same molecular structure as asbestos. Causes cancer. Keep away from female genital area. Do not breathe it in.
The AUDIO MP3 here “Exposing the Lies ….” is in addition to the above.
We are all familiar with the saying “It’s the final straw that breaks the camel’s back.”
Healthy Home
Today that saying is applicable to our well-being, the “straws” being all the factors which are causing our bodies to suffer “dis-ease” and which range from poor nutrition and toxicity to being stuck in a traffic jam every day.
Some things we have no control over but we can take control of others and the more “straws” we can remove, the better for us and for our well-being.
One “straw” that we can remove, thus lifting an unnecessary burden from our lives, is the daily poisoning of our bodies and homes.
Over the last few years, ordinary people, i.e. non-scientists like you and me, have become increasingly aware of the dangers posed by man-made chemical ingredients in products we use every day at home. Two TV programmes “How Toxic are You?” and “How Toxic are Your Kids?” enhanced this awareness, so I decided to take this opportunity to share with you what I have learned.
I firmly believe that everyone has the right to make choices. To do this effectively, we need knowledge.
It’s hard to believe that the most dangerous place is inside our own home.
A 15 year study showed that “women who worked at home had a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women who had jobs elsewhere.”
In 1989, a study by the US Dept of Occupational Safety and Health showed that of 2,983 chemicals used in personal and household products:
884 were known to be toxic. Of these:
778 were acutely toxic
146 were carcinogenic
218 were believed to cause reproductive complications
314 were believed to cause biological mutations
376 were known to cause eye and skin irritation
In 2003, a “ContamiNATION” study by the World Wide Foundation found as many as 70 different chemicals in the blood of UK citizens.
The average number was 27 with one poor man having 49.
Babies were being born with as many as 20.
Toxins tend to be stored in the fat. The implication is that mothers are passing on toxins in their breast milk.
Household products release toxic vapours even when they are not being used. We don’t need our eyes to tell us where the washing powders and cleaning products are in the supermarket, do we?
Then there are the air fresheners. Do you know it takes at least 100 chemicals to make a “perfume”? Have you ever read the warnings on the back? Nasty!
“Most homes have airborne concentrations of hazardous and toxic chemicals 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outside. Some homes are 70 times higher!” (US Environmental Protection Agency 1989)
The most common ingredients to watch out for in personal care products are these (although there are more than 100 alternative names for the first one!):-
Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulphate – corrosive industrial degreaser. Affects the eyes and the lining of the mouth, can alter DNA. (foaming products)
Someone I know told me about a Safety-Conscious company who do know the difference.
So now we can take out the guess work by buying the full range of effective every-day-use products from the company who, more than 25 years ago, pioneered the formulation, manufacture and distribution of products where more than 3000 commonly-used ingredients are avoided because they are known to be harmful or have a question mark over them.
I have transferred my spending on my personal and household products to them. You can too.
You don’t have to go and find your products and carry them home. You can order by phone or on-line and they will be delivered to your door.
Prior to writing this article I looked up the definition of two words:-
Diet and Food.
Diet is defined as “way of feeding”.
In other words, it’s the food we eat out of habit.
Today the sad thing is that we are consistently being tricked into believing that if we can put it into our mouths and swallow it, it tastes good and stops us feeling hungry, it’s food.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~That is not true~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The definition of Food is “nourishment”.
In other words it’s the fuel the body needs so it can do all the tasks it’s designed to do and if we fail to put in real food, our bodies fail to work properly and we become unwell.
The internal environment of a healthy body is slightly alkaline = 7.4 on a scale of 1 to 14 where 14 is strongly alkaline.
Even a small change makes us ill.
Digestion of food leaves a residue or “ash” –acidic or alkaline — so it’s clear that in order to maintain this delicate internal balance, our choice of food is critical because the last thing we want is an acidic body!
I think it’s a good idea to give my body the fuel it needs, when it needs it and in the correct proportions and combinations to help it extract the most benefit.
To do this, there are certain facts we need to know.
The body’s 24 hour cycle
The body’s 24 hour cycle
The body doesn’t realise (or doesn’t care) that we live in a concrete jungle with a timetable and electric lights! It continues to function on a natural cycle and goes through 3 phases in every 24 hour period. These are approximately 6.00 am to noon, noon to 8.00pm and 8.00 pm to 6.00 am — basically, two phases during daylight hours and one during the hours of darkness.
Whilst we are asleep (hours of darkness) the body does its “housekeeping” tasks, ie. it clears out of the cells all the waste products caused by the day’s activities, sending them off to elimination points. It also replaces damaged and dead cells, making them out of what we have absorbed during the day. (This is why we need nutritious food! cf. we may have the ingredients to make a cake but unless we have cocoa powder, it won’t be a chocolate cake!!)
The automatic elimination of waste products starts at about 6.00 am because, under “natural” conditions, we’d wake up with the sun.
By mid-day, most of the elimination has been completed so, until dusk, apart from breathing etc., the body can turn its full attention to the tasks we consciously want it to do.
This cycle has implications for the way we provide the body with nourishment
Energy is needed to eliminate waste products. Energy is needed for our daily work. Energy is needed to digest food and for absorption of nutrients.
Some foods take a lot of time and energy to be digested so it makes sense to eat foods in the morning which are easily and quickly digested. In other words, foods which use only a little energy to quickly release large amounts of energy and not use up energy needed for waste elimination.
In the afternoon we need energy to continue our daily work so it’s sensible to eat foods at lunch-time which provide sustained-energy release.
At night, the body needs building materials to repair and construct cells so, again, it’s sensible to eat foods at the evening meal which supply building materials
Another fact we need to take into consideration
An acid environment is required to digest one type of food and an alkaline one is required to digest another type, so it would appear to be advantageous to eat these two types of food at different times. As we all know, acid and alkali neutralise each other and when this occurs in the stomach, it causes poor digestion with its unpleasant symptoms of gas / wind and bloating. It also means that we fail to get full value from the food! It is therefore beneficial to eat protein and carbohydrates at different meals.
Fresh organic greens provide good nutrients
What proportions of food are best?
The human body is designed to function on a diet that is 80% of our diet should consist of green vegetables and fruit, 20% protein and complex carbohydrate (the body can make protein). [Essential fats are present in the above]
The body’s internal environment is alkaline. When we digest our food, green veg leaves an alkaline ash whereas carbohydrates and proteins leave an acid ash, therefore the majority of our diet needs to be green veg…!
The Ideal Diet
Pure, clean water
2 Litres of Pure Water Every Day. Water is the most important nutrient we need – as we all know, we die very quickly without it.
We are 70% water and we need it every day to enable our cells, organs and systems to perform their functions. We lose 1 ½ to 2 litres per day through the skin, lungs and gut and via the kidneys as urine, eliminating toxic substances from our bodies. We need to drink 2 litres of pure, clean water every day, which means that we need to filter out impurities and chemicals. (Coffee, tea, soft drinks, alcohol do not count — in fact, they dehydrate us so we need to add an extra glass of water to compensate for each one of those we consume).
Most of us are permanently dehydrated and don’t realise it. We think we only need to drink when we feel thirsty but thirst is a sign that we are already dehydrated!
It is important that our drinking water is at body temperature because our cells cannot absorb and use cold water.
Drinking a glass of water 30 minutes before eating helps with digestion but drinking water with a meal dilutes the gastric juices, making digestion difficult. Wait two more hours before drinking any more water.
Here are two simple ways to test whether your body needs water:- Lightly pinch the skin (front of the neck or between the thumb and first finger). If it doesn’t spring back, you are short of water. Your urine should be nearly colourless. If it isn’t, you are short of water.
Breakfast and Morning Snacks
Breakfast and Morning Snacks Fresh fruit contains water. It is digested and out of the stomach in 15 minutes, releasing its energy (banana takes 30 minutes) so the body is not then using up energy that it needs for eliminating toxins. You can top-up your energy by snacking on fruit any time you feel hungry during the morning.
Due to this rapid digestion, fruit should be eaten at other times as a Starter, NOT as a Dessert, 15 minutes prior to eating carbohydrates or proteins because they stay in the stomach for an hour or more and any fruit trapped in there just ferments ….Not good…!
Anything with seeds inside is a fruit. Melon, grapes, pineapple, water melon, peaches, apricots, plums, greengages, apples, oranges, pears, berries, tomatoes, peppers, courgette, cucumber.
My normal breakfast consists of five or six different fruits cut up into small pieces. I eat most of it, leaving a small amount to eat mid-morning.
Lunch
Lunch
Carbohydrates, salad, all vegetables (fresh/frozen). (complex carbohydrates give sustained -release energy which we need in order to work in the afternoon).
Wholemeal breads (especially rye and spelt) and pastas, brown rice, carrot, parsnip, potato, beetroot, radish
Lettuce, onion, cress, herbs, garlic
Green leafy vegetables:- sprouts, cabbage, leeks, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus
Vegetables are best eaten raw or lightly cooked. (Steamed/stirfried not boiled).
Dinner
Dinner Protein & green vegetables. (the body requires protein to build and repair cells so it needs to be eaten in the evening )
Fish, poultry, egg, cheese, very little red meat.
Legumes (peas, beans, chick peas, lentils), not the root vegetables listed with breads (they are Starch-Carbohydrates
Is this way of eating easy to follow?
At first I found it really hard and very strange to eat this way but I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I mentally adapted to it.
Now, it feels right and normal and, although I sometimes like to eat a traditional Sunday Dinner or Christmas Dinner (I love Yorkshire Puddings), it otherwise never occurs to me to cook potatoes and carrots etc. to eat with meat or fish, I just have three-quarters of my plate full of five or six different kinds of green veg.
I’ve become quite innovative with salad for warmer days. I have greens like wild rocket, watercress, shredded cabbage etc, not just lettuce, shavings of fresh ginger root and thinly sliced raw courgette and raw stalks of cauliflower and broccoli as well as growing my own sprouted seeds –I just have to remember to eat them at the appropriate meal. I also grow Nasturtiums and eat the leaves, stalks and flowers.
Raw veg are nutritious. Cooking kills the enzymes.
I make my own salad dressing by adding crushed garlic, black peppercorns and fresh rosemary to a bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Organic, of course. After about four days it tastes really nice and just gets better..!
Last Spring, I decided to have a parasitic and fungal cleanse so I stopped eating grains and root vegetables for a couple of months. A nice side effect was that I got rid of a stone of fat during the first two week. Lovely! I also had lots of energy and felt great.
When I re-introduced carbohydrates I did regain a little weight — about four or five pounds but that was ok because my body had rid itself of a stone and a half of unnecessary fat!
What do we need to remember?
Treats!!
I think it’s important to remember that the design of our bodies has not changed from when we were Hunter-Gatherers.
It struggles to cope with four-course meals where we consume protein, carbohydrates, vegetables, sugar, fancy desserts and puddings etc. all mixed in together.
I think we need to be sensible and bear in mind that a healthy body can stand some abuse as long as it’s not every day!
I like cake and sherry triffle and all sorts of yummy things and I eat them.
However, they are treats, not part of my normal everyday diet so when I do eat them, I really enjoy them!
What do YOU think?
Do you agree that the reasons I have given make a good case for eating in the way I recommend ?
